Dr Linda Muckson Sesay

Founder, Community Health Foundation Inc.

From a humble village in Sierra Leone to a maternal-child hospital serving 65,000 people — a life devoted to bringing safe care within reach.

Her Story

Care that reaches everyone.

Dr. Linda Muckson Sesay is a healthcare advocate whose work has transformed access to care for underserved communities in Sierra Leone. Born and raised in a humble village and now residing in Bowie, Maryland, she is the founder of the Community Health Foundation Inc., a nonprofit she established in 2019 to provide free, high-quality healthcare — along with essential provisions such as food — to the populations that need it most. Under her leadership, the foundation has launched numerous programs to improve the well-being of marginalized communities through medical outreach, health education, and disease-prevention initiatives.

The loss that set her course

A Purpose Born from Loss

Dr. Linda’s dedication to healthcare is rooted in personal experience. As a young girl growing up in an impoverished community, she witnessed the tragic death of her aunt during childbirth — the result of three days of labor without access to adequate care. Her aunt and her unborn child died because no nearby facility could perform a cesarean section.

That loss shaped the course of Dr. Linda’s life. She pledged to devote herself to healthcare and community well-being, determined to prevent such tragedies for others.

Education & Career

Dr. Linda pursued her education with unwavering determination, ultimately advancing her career in the United States, where she earned both a Master’s degree and a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from Grand Canyon University. Throughout her career, she remained committed to confronting the healthcare challenges facing Sierra Leone — a country that continues to grapple with some of the world’s highest rates of maternal and neonatal mortality.

A 40-bed hospital in Mile 91

Building a Hospital, Saving Lives

In 2022, after years of tireless effort, Dr. Linda completed construction of a 40-bed Maternal-Child Health Hospital in Mile 91, a remote region of Tonkolili District. The hospital serves approximately 65,000 residents across several chiefdoms and operates with skilled doctors, nurses, and support staff.

The fully equipped facility includes an operating theatre, male and female wards, and a laboratory capable of performing a wide range of tests as well as blood transfusions. Since opening, it has carried out both major and minor surgeries — including cesarean sections — without a single maternal death in labor.

Care that outlives a single visit

Lasting Impact

Through the Community Health Foundation, Dr. Linda provides free healthcare to pregnant women and children, dramatically improving access and quality of care for those who once had none. Her work has also created employment and equipped community members with the knowledge and resources to safeguard their own health.

By mobilizing resources, raising awareness of critical health issues, and delivering vital services — from medical mission trips to health education — Dr. Linda has not only saved lives but fostered a culture of wellness and resilience throughout the region she serves.
